Jeanne A. Markey is a shareholder of the firm and concentrates on qui tam litigation in addition to securities class actions and class action environmental law. In past years, Ms. Markey has been actively involved in, or principally responsible for, securities class actions such as Home Shopping Network ( $18.5 million settlement), Cascade International (which included a $10 million settlement with Raymond James & Associates based upon allegations that its analyst reports were materially misleading) and Summit Technology ($10 million settlement).
More recently, Ms. Markey has focused on qui tam litigation, particularly in the context of the health care industry. She has worked extensively representing whistleblowers in both state and federal court. A series of False Claims Act cases against drug companies for fraudulent Medicaid and Medicare drug prices has led to recoveries of over $200 million, including a $150 million settlement with GlaxoSmithKline PLC.
Ms. Markey has also been actively involved in Benzman v. Whitman, a putative class action lawsuit brought on behalf of residents, students and office workers in Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn against Christine Todd Whitman and the EPA based upon the class’ exposure to contaminated interior World Trade Center dust after the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
Ms. Markey is admitted to the Pennsylvania and New Jersey bars. Ms. Markey is a graduate of Colgate University (B.A. cum laude 1979) and Cornell University Law School (J.D. 1983), where she was a member of the Moot Court Board.
