Price-Fixing MDL Settlements Reach $500M With Air Canada

Air Canada on Wednesday resolved allegations that it conspired with other airlines to fix the price of freight shipping to and from the U.S., becoming the latest company to settle in a multidistrict litigation that has now netted customers nearly $500 million.

The Canadian airline's shipping customers asked the New York federal court to approve a $7.5 million settlement that would let Air Canada and affiliate AC Cargo LP off the hook for allegations that they worked with other air freight companies to collude on rates charged for various shipping routes from dozens of countries.

Under the settlement, Air Canada also agreed to cooperate with the plaintiffs in continuing its litigation with shipping companies that remain active defendants, according to the plaintiffs' motion for approval of the deal.
