Berger & Montague Named for 5th time in 6 Years as among Country's Top Plaintiffs' Firms 12/9/08 For the fifth time in six years, Berger & Montague was named to the National Law Journal’s “Hot List” of the top 15 plaintiffs’ law firms in the United States. The Journal noted Berger & Montague’s impressive settlements with, among others, discount retailer TJX Cos. for the country’s largest theft of personal data to date; with twenty of the major pet food manufacturers for selling food laced with melamine; and with KLA-Tencor, in the fourth largest options-backdating case ever settled. The editors devoted a special article to Sherrie R. Savett, managing principal of Berger & Montague, for her leadership in the aforementioned cases. Savett’s unique skill at forcing attorneys “to calculate the incalculable,” in the words of the Journal, was singled-out as worthy of detailed examination--and commendation. The editors also lauded Berger & Montague for the $926 million final judgment entered in the case known as “Rocky Flats,” in which residents near the Colorado nuclear weapons parts plant of that name suffered contamination to their property. To be selected to this elite list from those nominated, plaintiffs’ firms must have accomplished “exemplary, cutting-edge work.” The Journal observed that, given some of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent rulings that make the work of plaintiffs harder than it had been, the success of these top firms is even more remarkable.
